In an effort to better serve our customers and leverage technology, buyer's will have the ability to make payments online directly to Public Surplus. Effective October 1, 2015 the City of Newport News's surplus payment process will change. Payments can be made by credit card, (Visa, MasterCard or Discover) for up to $4000 and wire transfers will be accepted for payment over $4000. Cash payments will no longer be accepted and the City will no longer receive payments.
5% Buyers Premium: This is added to the successful bid and is payable by the bidder. It represents the cost charged for sale of property by Public Auction.
Buyers will have 5 days to make payment for auction items and 5 days from date of payment to remove items from the city of Newport News.
**All Payment Receipts for Surplus will be issued in the Bidders name. Business owners will need documentation or proof of ownership for any change to be made.
