1998 Subaru Legacy Brighton AWD Wagon – Legendary EJ22 Engine
Offered for auction is this 1998 Subaru Legacy Brighton AWD Wagon equipped with Subaru's legendary 2.2L EJ22 engine, widely considered one of the most reliable and durable engines Subaru ever produced.
This Legacy runs and drives well and is ready for its next owner. The engine starts easily, runs smoothly, and the AWD system operates as expected. The interior is clean and well-kept for the age of the vehicle, showing less wear than many similar Subarus of this era.
The body shows some minor dings and cosmetic imperfections consistent with age and normal use, but overall presents well. The wagon body style provides excellent cargo space and practicality, making it a great daily driver, winter vehicle, or adventure wagon.
The previous owner advised that significant maintenance and upgrades were performed within the last approximately 50,000 miles, including:
- Timing belt replacement
- Water pump replacement
- Spark plugs and ignition wires
- Cylinder head work
We do not have documentation or receipts to verify this work. However, the engine compartment appears clean and well cared for, and there are numerous service notes and markings present on the timing covers, belts, and related components that suggest maintenance has been performed. Buyers should make their own assessment regarding the condition and service history of the vehicle.

P0183 is usually caused by one of three things:
- Bad connection at the fuel pump assembly (most common)
- Broken/open wire to the fuel temperature sensor
- Failed fuel temperature sensor inside the fuel pump/sending unit assembly

Out-of-state buyers do not pay sales tax. Colorado state residents will be required to pay an additional 2.9% sales tax. La Plata County, Colorado residents will be required to pay state and county tax for a total rate of 5.9%. This will be billed and collected independently of your Public Surplus invoice.

Bid Deposits: Motors For Good may require bid deposits to ensure fairness to all buyers.
Payment. Payment for an awarded item must be received within five (5) business days after the date of the Notice of Award of the successful bid. Payment must be made in one of the following ways:

Wire Transfer
Payment may only be made online by credit card, ACH transfer, or by wire transfer. NO CASH, CHECKS, OR MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Payment for an awarded item must be received within five (5) business days after notice of award of the winning bid.
Buyers Premium: A Buyers Premium of 10% will be added to the final sale price with a $1 minimum charge per auction for payment collections. This premium if applicable will be visible during the bidding process and added to the total bid.
Vehicle abandonment and storage. If the Buyer, after making payment for an item, fails to pick up the vehicle within 10 business days, the agency will consider the vehicle abandoned and will (1) to retain all payments; and (2) to dispose of the item through another auction or otherwise. No refund will be given for vehicle abandonment. The agency, at its sole discretion, may elect to store the vehicle for up to 90 days at a private, secure location. The cost for this storage is $35 per day.
